Fair rides, baked goods and carnival food are all part of the Hindley Happening, Hindley School’s annual fair, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday, May 7, at the school.
A silent auction will be held in the school gymnasium, with items donated by local merchants, including dinners at local restaurants, jewelry, sports tickets, jewelry and personal training sessions. A plant sale is also part of the event.
Here’s what the fair grounds and school looked like before the event:

"No, tell your older brother that you will NOT get fried like a hamburger if you go on this ride."

"Grandchild, when I was your age, all they had was a ferris wheel and ice at the carnival. That was it. Just a ferris wheel and some ice. And we loved it."
One minute, they're afraid of the carousel. In the blink of an eye, they'll be watching horror movies.
"But darling, it's all organic, low-calorie, locally sourced and sugar free. ... Yes, I read it in the school bulletin—you didn't see that? ... I must've thrown it out because I thought you saw it. ... No, I don't think it's online for some reason."
"But Mommy, that's the way they spelled it at the Hindley Happening. I don't know why the teacher marked it wrong."
"There was a ride where you got into the belly of a monster? I think you're fibbing."
"Scat is what you tell a cat when you want it to go away, dear. ... No, it doesn't have any other meaning than that. ... Yes, I'm sure."
"I HAVE to go on the slide, Mommy! Pink is my favorite color! It doesn't matter if I'm a boy — I wanna go on the slide!"
"But Daddy, it's indisputably the world's best sundae. And it's gourmet! And strawberry's my favorite fruit. ... Well, it's my new favorite fruit!"
In about 10 years, your kids will be in the real thing. And that time will pass in a blink.
