A drinking glass was smashed into the side of one Darien man’s face and another man was punched in the face at about 12:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 18 at Chez Ernie’s bar on Tokeneke Road, police said. The man hit with the drinking glass received “significant injuries” with many cuts on his eye, nose and cheek on the left side of his face as well as on one of his hands, police said. The man said to have assaulted the two bar patrons, both 51-year-old Darien men, was escorted out the back of the bar by management, and police now want to question him, according to a police report. Darien police described what happened with this account (including accusations not proven in court, assuming the matter gets to a court):

One of the two Darien men (who wasn’t cut up) told police he was at the bar for about an hour with the other man, whom he had known years ago.

A 25-year-old bar patron began his Thanksgiving Day at about 1 a.m. apparently intoxicated, with his head smashed through a small glass window, according to police. Darien police gave this account of the incident, which didn’t result in an arrest:

The man, who lives in Norwalk, didn’t appear to have suffered any major injuries, and he said he didn’t want to go to a hospital. But due to possible unseen injuries and his state of intoxication, Darien EMS-Post 53 emergency medical technicians overruled him and took him to Norwalk Hospital anyway. At about 1 a.m., police were called to Chez Ernie’s bar at 25 Tokeneke Road on a report of a possible breach of peace. When they arrived, police were told a bouncer had asked the man to leave.
