Letter: Darien GOP Chair on Democrat’s ‘Irresponsibility’

To the editor:

Once again, Democrats in Darien and across the state have shown they have no plans or solutions for Gov. Dan Malloy’s fiscal irresponsibility. Instead of discussing ways to fix the economy and bring jobs back to Connecticut, they are focused on fear mongering and national party politics. Voters should remember that years of Dan Malloy and Bob Duff have put us in the financial hole we find ourselves in today. Fortunately, in 16 days, voters across the state will go to the polls to support Bob Stefanowski and reliable Republican plans to cut taxes and grow our flagging economy. Chris Taylor

The Darien Republican Town Committee has elected a new chairman, Chris Taylor, formerly co-chair and vice chair, as Brent Hayes stepped down. Alex Davidson was elected vice chair; and Ann-Gail Hult, secretary. Bert von Steupnagel was re-elected treasurer, and David Brown was re-elected deputy treasurer. Hayes had been on the Republican Town Committee for five years, two as chairman. “We were very lucky to have Brent as chair, and as his co-chair, it was a pleasure working with him to select qualified Republican candidates and move the party forward in Darien,” Taylor said in an email.

The Republican primary for state and local offices on Tuesday, August 14, will be one of the most important ones in years. Among the positions in play include: Governor (with five candidates running), Lieutenant Governor (including our own RTC-endorsed candidate, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson), and for those in District 3 (northwest Darien), State House District 147 (with Darien’s Marcy Minnick competing).

To see the full slate of Republican candidates competing for various offices in the CT primaries, please visit www.DarienRTC.com. It’s important that all Republicans come out and vote. If you know you won’t be in town on August 14, absentee ballots are available now at the Town Clerk’s office. You can either go to the “Registrar of Voters” page on the Town’s website (http://www.darienct.gov) to obtain an application to mail in or you can appear in person at Town Hall.
