Library to Show Movie About Creating a Sustainable, Organic ‘Biggest Little Farm,’ 7 PM, Wednesday

In “The Biggest Little Farm,” a 2018 movie, a documentarian and his wife attempt to establish a farm outside LA while facing wildfires, pests and predators. The movie is being presented at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Darien Library, co-sponsored by the library, the Darien Pollinator Pathway, the Darien Land Trust, the Garden Club, the Darien Nature Center and Planet New Canaan. The movie also was shown back in August at the library as a Friday night feature. Here’s the announcement Darienite.com published then:

You Can Register Soon for Darien Nature Center’s Summer Camp Program

Summer fun begins outside! The Darien Nature Center’s Summer Camp program will run for seven weeks, from June 22 to Aug. 7, for children ages 3 to 8. — an announcement from Darien Nature Center, with added information from the Nature Center’s website

Each week will explore a different nature-inspired theme (such as Forest Friends, Adventures in Science, and Around the Campfire) and conclude with a performance on Fridays for families. Families may enroll à la carte by week.

Darien Nature Center to Honor Veterinarian at Annual Meeting

The Darien Nature Center will honor Dr. Charles Duffy, owner of Norwalk Veterinary Hospital, on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for his longtime commitment to the wellbeing of the Nature Center’s animals. A cocktails and hors d’oeuvres party will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nature Center, directly following its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Duffy will be named the first recipient of the David M. Sinclair Volunteerism Award, which was established last year to annually recognize a local individual who has shown exceptional commitment to the natural world. The Darien Nature Center houses more than 30 animals, and Dr. Duffy has been their dedicated volunteer on-call caretaker for nearly 20 years. “We have more than a dozen species living here and any creature could need medical help at any time.
