Traffic, Parking Regs Announced for First DHS Night Football Game on Friday, Sept 7

The Darien Police Department will enforce traffic regulations and monitor security for Darien High School’s first night football game, to be held on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. — an announcement from Darien Police Department

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.  All traffic will enter the DHS campus from Noroton Avenue beginning at 6:30 p.m. High School Lane and Nutmeg Lane will be closed to incoming traffic. Spectators are strongly urged to carpool as parking at the high school is limited. Due to the large number of vehicles expected, parking regulations and designated tow away zones will be strictly enforced.

Interim Superintendent Announces Guidance Dept Personnel Changes for Grades 6 to 12

Interim Superintendent Elliott Landon has announced the appointment of Meghan Emanuelson, a guidance counselor, as interim director of guidance for both Darien High School and Middlesex Middle School. Landon also announced three other personnel moves related to Emanuelson’s promotion:

Landon announced that Marc Power, a school counselor at Middlesex Middle School, has been appointed to replace Emanuelson as a school counselor at the high school. Replacing Power on an interim basis will be Emily Berezecky has been appointed a school counselor at the middle school. Emanuelson replaces Paul Ribeiro, who was appointed assistant principal at DHS earlier this summer. Ribeiro replaced Jacob Greenwood, who had taken a job in Monroe as principal of Masuk High School.

Substance Abuse Meeting for Students About to Attend DHS and Parents

All Darien High School students involved in any extracurricular activity and their parents are now required to attend one of the few scheduled school meetings about the dangers of substance abuse. And there’s one scheduled on Monday night especially for students about to complete Grade 8 and enter high school, along with one of their parents or guardians. The school district will have more of these meetings over the summer, but school officials say the one on Monday is expected to be the easiest one for parents and kids to attend, since it’s unlikely to interfere with summer activities. The meeting takes place from 7:15 to 9 p.m. on June 11 in the Darien High School Auditorium. At 6 p.m. the same night, Grade 8 students are invited to the high school Gym to learn about the athletic program.
