The final event for our inaugural year of the Fathers’ Forum is this Saturday, May 13. And we’re excited to have Ginger Furey join us as she leads an important discussion about parenting that develops respect for one’s sexuality. A different topic, for sure, but dads play an important role in this discussion, and if you are unsure how to have “the chats” with your son or daughter, Ginger will provide some very helpful ideas. _____________

Parents play a vital role in the creation of physical and emotional boundaries for children — boundaries which follow them into their adult lives.
On Saturday morning, Vince Benevento, founder and director of Causeway Collaborative, speaks to the Fathers Forum of Darien on “Transitioning From Adolescence to Adulthood.” Vince will discuss parenting tips for those with children moving into and through their adolescent years. Causeway’s mission is to help young men bridge the gap between potential and outcome, and help them foster fruitful transitions to adulthood. Vince will provide a short presentation and then open an engaging discussion that will help our dads in strengthening their families through more thoughtful and effective communication. The event takes place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Darien YMCA.

As we [the Darien Father’s Forum] kick off the New Year, Janice Marzano, program director at the Darien Depot youth center, leads a panel discussion with grads from the Darien High School who share their thoughts about growing up in Darien. One panelist is a former captain of the football team who saw how drinking altered his life direction and will speak to the circumstances that led him to drink. We’re also pleased to announce that Trey Laird, co-founder of The Lighthouse, will join the group and offer his insights on how parents can manage drinking issues with their children. It’s important to note that our approach isn’t to rehash research or lament the challenges but rather to help fathers connect with the issues so they can be more proactive in parenting — especially earlier in their children’s lives. So, dads with kids of all ages will benefit from this discussion.
