The road to liberty was neither straight nor level, and American Rebels presents the full, and largely unknown, stories behind the fight for American independence. When the initial decision to rebel against the oppressive policies of England was made, loyalties — within families and among friends — were divided and relationships were severed over this decision. The decision to stay loyal or rebel cut across class lines, with the Quincys representing old money, the Hancocks, new money, and the Adams, no money. Throughout the years leading up to revolution, the rebels’ political and personal ambitions often clashed-and yet, again and again, they achieved compromise in the interest of the greater good.
