Stuart T. Seagren, of Darien passed away on March 21, 2018 at Stamford Hospital. He was 95.

Stuart Seagren, 95, passed away on March 21. Visiting hours and a short memorial service will be held on Monday, March 26.

Born on Feb. 23, 1923 in Norrkoping, Sweden, he was the son of Joseph and Greta Seagren (Sjogren). Stuart was predeceased by his wife, Mary, and is survived by his son Dwight, daughter-in-law, Koko, and grandson, Eric.

Stuart moved with his family to the United States in 1926 and grew up in Greenwich, graduating from Greenwich High School in 1942.

During World War II, he served in Europe with the U.S. Army’s 160 Engineering Combat Battalion (3rd Army) in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhine Crossings, the Ardennes and Central Europe. Upon his return, he lived in Stamford and worked as a carpenter. He joined the Postal Service in 1960 and moved to Darien in 1964.

Stuart was an avid swimmer, and enjoyed going to Weed and Pear Tree Point beaches well into his 80s. Some of his fondest memories were of summers at Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire with his family.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, followed by a short memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
