Steve Dorris, here, and Alicia Taylor run At Home in the Heights. This is their second Sidewalk Sale & Family Fun Days since opening the store. Beach towels have been popular on the sidewalk table, along with sun hats, Dorris said on Friday.

Barrett Bookstore Manager Libby Stowell of Darien said a lot of people stop by the table on the sidewalk outside the store, then come in and buy more. "A lot of gift items that didn't sell well during the year are selling better at these prices," she said, echoing similar comments from other store managers participating in the sidewalk sales.

Asked for his full name, he spells out "T-H-E A-M-A-Z-I-N-G A-N-D-Y". He's over six feet high when he's off his stilts and lives in Hamden. Andy has been stilt-walking for three decades. And here's proof he can fit in the covered sidewalk in front of Barrett Bookstore at the Noroton Heights Shopping Center.
