Ruth Richardson Montgomery of Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on Sept. 28, after a short illness. She was 91.

A graduate of Adelphi Academy (1948) and Mount Holyoke College (1952), Ruth and her former husband, Robert, and their children lived in Nassau, Bahamas, from 1955 to 1964, in New Canaan from 1964 to 1975, and in Houston from 1975 to 1982.
Thereafter, she lived in Darien with her late husband Sigmund John Montgomery, who predeceased her in 2017. In 2020, she moved to Massachusetts.
Ruth devoted her life, abundant love and enormous energy to family, to her many friends, to her Christian faith, and to volunteer services in her home communities. She was a voracious reader and always eager for adventure, loving travel, hiking, sailing, theater and concerts.
In more recent years, she loved the company of visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she enjoyed reading together, and playing animated board games, word games like Scrabble, and charades.
She is survived by her children: Charles Richardson Skeele (Jennifer), Harrison Fowler Skeele (Virginia), Sarah Hayden Post, and her stepdaughter, Cynthia Kowalski (Ronald); her sister, Alice Hayward Forker of Columbia, Missouri; her seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, her four great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Ruth’s special legacy was her ability to leave everyone she met and knew, for however long or short a time, feeling uniquely special, appreciated and cared for. In this spirit, her family asks that, in lieu of flowers or special contributions to worthy causes, you greet your neighbors with a smile and ask them how they are, and think of Ruth and the love she brought to every neighborhood she lived in.
