Mrs. Cheswick led an active life filled with adventure and a multitude of volunteer activities. Having grown up on the water in the Adirondacks, Ruth was an enthusiastic boater, sailor and water-skier. In midlife, Ruth went down the Colorado River on an Outward Bound rafting trip at a time when not too many women were paddling into the wilderness.

Her love of golf resulted in her winning the 1981 Wee Burn Country Club Women’s Championship, much to the amazement of her friends, family and herself. She also played a mean game of bridge. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the world.

Ruth was dedicated to the town of Darien. As a life-long, voracious reader, she was a committed volunteer at the Darien Library and served on the Board of Directors for many years. Ruth was an active member and on the Board of Deacons at Noroton Presbyterian church and spent many hours as a volunteer and leader of the Children’s Aid Society.

Ruth and her husband, Dick, were members of the Wee Burn Country Club of Darien; The Jupiter Island Club of Hobe Sound, Florida; the Hobe Sound Yacht Club; the Everglades Club of Palm Beach, Florida; and The Sankaty Head Club of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

She will be remembered fondly by her three children: William Roberts Cheswick of Flemington, New Jersey; Susan Cheswick Brewer of Darien; and Carol Ann Cheswick of Stamford; five grandchildren; and one brand-new great granddaughter.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Darien Library, 1441 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820.
