A Whole Foods employee was caught eating or stealing $108 from the store, Darien police said.

Police described what happened at the supermarket at 150 Ledge Road with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Sometime before about 4 p.m. on Monday, July 2 loss-prevention employee at the store saw Raul Garcia of Stamford, a 20-year-old store employee, eating food he hadn’t bought.

His personal bag was searched (something allowed by company policy), and inside it the loss-prevention employee found ice cream valued at $18 that hadn’t been paid for.

Garcia admitted that he’d stolen items from the store nine times since he started working there. The store estimated that he stole items priced at a total of $108.

Garcia, a resident of West Broad Street in Stamford, was issued a misdemeanor summons charging him with sixth-degree larceny and told to appear July 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
