The Swap Shop at the Darien Transfer Station and Recycling Center is opening Monday for the first time since the pandemic closed it, town officials have announced, and they’ve explained why the shop won’t be open on Saturdays yet.
In the 13 most recent health inspection reports released by the Darien Health Department, three local food-serving establishments received “C” ratings — the worst.
Of the other 10 establishments, five received B ratings and five got A’s. All the inspections took place from Aug. 1 to 8.

Americare’s, the Stamford-based international charity that emphasizes quick relief efforts after natural disasters in the United States and worldwide, is providing relief in two areas recently hit by catastrophes of different types: an earthquake in Indonesia and the recent large fires in California.
Natural disasters and weather emergencies are in the news. Whether it’s the devastating wildfires along the West Coast, the relentless rains and flooding along the East Coast, or tornado strikes in the Midwest, it’s heartbreaking to see people lose their homes and businesses.
But it’s despicable when scammers exploit such tragedies to appeal to your sense of generosity.

Damon Burke Clemow of Darien passed away on Aug. 3, much too soon at the age of 43.
Two construction projects will result in highway lane closures in Norwalk — one long-term bridge rehabilitation project closing lanes on Interstate 95 through November 2019; the other, a paving project just begun on Route 7 — the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced.
Work on the I-95 bridge is expected to last 15 months, starting Aug. 16. The paving project on Route 7 is expected to last about a month.
Florence E. Tosches, a resident of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 5 at Stamford Hospital. She was 85.
