Items delivered and put in or near a mailbox on Wilson Ridge Road were stolen early last week at about the same time that a resident of the Post Road, nearby, found items stolen from her vehicle.

Darien police gave this description of the thefts reported to them:

On Wilson Ridge Road

A resident told police she believed that on Tuesday, Dec. 22, UPS delivered a gingerbread house in a small box and an envelope which were then stolen. The UPS delivery man usually leaves the items by or in the mailbox, she said, although she didn’t have UPS tracking information available when she made the report.

A woman told the victim that an envelope with the Wilson Ridge home’s address was found on the ground on Hillside Avenue (and that’s when the victim realized items had been stolen). Some items were missing from the envelope, which the Wilson Ridge woman retrieved. Later, a Stamford resident told the woman that the box with the gingerbread house in it was found on a street in that city.

The envelope from Williams-Sonoma contained paper goods valued at $10. The gingerbread house was valued at about $20.

Police asked neighbors if they’d noticed anything unusual or suspicious, but nothing came of that canvassing.

On the Post Road — Maybe

A 19-year-old resident of a home on the Post Road between Purdy Lane and Oakland Terrace, not far from Wilson Ridge Road, told police she noticed some items missing from her 2008 Jeep Liberty.

She said she regularly leaves her vehicle unlocked when she parks it at home. At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, she found that the Jeep’s glove box had been opened and items were missing from the center console.

Missing were a Sephora brand shopping bag containing various toiletries valued at about $40 and an X-box gift card priced at $25.

She had used the vehicle through the day on Wednesday and wasn’t sure where the theft took place. She had last seen both the bag and the gift card on Monday, Dec. 21, when she put them in the console.
