A MacBook Pro laptop valued at $700 was reported missing from a desk drawer of an employee at Alcone Marketing Group at 320 Post Road.
Darien police gave this description of the incident and investigation:
The employee told police she had last seen the computer on Friday, June 30 at about 5 p.m. but hadn’t noticed it missing until 10 a.m., Thursday, July 6. The device is owned by the company, and only company employees and cleaning people have access to the office where it went missing. There were no signs of forced entry.
The area of the complainant’s desk is secured, with access only given to employees and cleaning personnel via key-fob. No signs of forced entry were observed, and no other items of value had been taken from the area.
A company official told police that software on the laptop would notify the company when the device is turned on and connected to the Internet. That hadn’t happened as of this past Monday.
The office building’s exterior doors recently had not been locking property, and one morning a vagrant had been found sleeping in the lobby, the employee told police.
When police asked around, no other tenants of the building reported thefts.
