Darien’s Republican voters are invited to the Republican caucus on Jan. 11 that will pick members of the Republican Town Committee, either accepting the RTC’s endorsed candidates or voting in others.

The list of 18 candidates endorsed by the RTC (the full list is at the end of this article) includes veterans on the (nonpartisan) Representative Town Meeting — Karen Armour, the current chairman of the RTC (and former moderator of the RTM), along with RTM members Seth Morton, Nanci Natale, Bert von Stuelpnagel and Frederick Conze, who is also the former chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission.

The legal notice for the meeting was published Monday by Darienite.com, here.

A previous GOP caucus, which met on July 27, overwhelmingly rejected some candidates that the RTM had endorsed for seats on the Board of Selectmen.

After the town committee had replaced incumbent Selectman Susan Marks with RTM member Spencer J. McIlmurray as their endorsed candidate for one of the seats on the Board of Selectmen, hundreds of GOP registered voters filled the caucus to reject the endorsed candidate and vote in Marks as the Republican nominee.

In that caucus, Marks won 274 votes, newcomer Kip Koons won 231; Spencer McIlmurray, 59; Joe Warren, 41. About 320 people registered for voting at that caucus.

For anyone who wants to nominate other candidates for seats on the RTC, they must get in a petition signed by 25 registered Republicans in town and, on the petition, have the name of the candidate they’re proposing as it appears on the town’s roll of registered voters.

The deadline for the petition is Tuesday, Jan. 5, and the legal notice gives the addresses of Armour and RTC Secretary Laurie Williamson as the places where the petitions need to be sent. (See the legal notice for details.)

No candidates can be nominated for the party’s endorsement after the Jan. 5 deadline; none can be nominated from the floor of the caucus, which is scheduled to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the Auditorium of Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road.
