Darien’s regular vaccine clinic is closing on June 3. If you’re vaccinated, you don’t need a mask when you’re in Town Hall. Town boards and commissions will shift to in-person meetings in June.

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson made these points — each of them reflecting a pandemic threat that’s shrunk in this town — in her regular Code Red message Thursday night. As if to underline the theme, she said this will be her last regular update.

“We will continue to post information on the town website and use Code Red to inform you as needed,” she said.

Only two people in town have tested positive for COVID-19 since May 13, she said, and over 70% of town residents aged 16 and up have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

Although the town’s vaccine clinic is closing, residents can make appointments with the town Health Department to get vaccinated, Stevenson said. In addition, vaccines are readily available at various places in town and beyond.

Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a COVID-19 update for Thursday, May 27.

Very positive trends continue in Darien. Only two new cases have been reported in the two-week period since May 13. Darien’s two-week positivity rate stands at 0.07%. There have been a total of 1,523 cases from 956 unique households. Darien Public Schools report one active case resulting in 21 quarantines. Over 70% of Darien residents over the age of 16 have received at least 1 dose of vaccine. Data for ages 12-15 are not yet available.

Demand for vaccine has significantly declined. As a result, Darien will hold our final open vaccine clinic next Wednesday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-ins are welcomed.

Beginning June 3, you can register through the state’s vaccine management system (VAMS) to receive vaccine in the Darien Health Department by appointment only. With Walgreens, Griebs and CVS providing vaccines here in town, we are confident that any resident needing vaccine can find one.

Masks are no longer required outdoors for everyone, vaccinated or not. Folks who are not vaccinated must continue to wear masks indoors and everyone must wear masks in healthcare facilities, facilities housing vulnerable populations, on public and private transit, correctional facilities, and in schools and childcare settings. Individual businesses can make and enforce their own rules, so check with each establishment to understand their requirements.

Darien Town Hall will be following CDC guidance. We are operating on the honor system for those who are unvaccinated and need to continue to mask. Darien Public Schools will follow separate guidance from the State Department of Education.

Boards and commissions will transition back to in-person meetings in June.

You can find a vaccine provider at www.ct.gov/covidvaccine or by calling 1(877)918-2224. Local vaccine providers include Grieb’s Pharmacy, Walgreens, Stamford Hospital, Yale New Haven Health, Community Health Center, CVS and certain Stop & Shop pharmacies.

Statewide COVID-19 data can be found here, and Darien-specific data here. Please visit the CDC website for more COVID-19 information.

Given the consistently positive COVID news for Darien, today’s message will be my final weekly outcall. We will continue to post information on the town website and use Code Red to inform you as needed. I hope you have found these weekly updates to be helpful.

Darien’s Memorial Day Parade steps on at 10am sharp on Monday, May 31st and follows the traditional parade route down the Post Road from Brookside Road to Hecker Avenue. The parade is immediately followed by our Memorial Ceremony in the Spring Grove Veterans’ Cemetery. We welcome you to attend but please distance appropriately.

As you gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, some for the first time in 14 months, please take a moment to remember and honor the men and women in uniform who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our the freedom on which this great country was founded. Have a happy and healthy holiday weekend and God Bless America!
