Depot Youth Center is hosting the presentation “Real Life. Real Talk. Sex Education for Parents and Caregivers,” on Thursday, April 4. The presentation, in partnership with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, place from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. at the Depot, 25 Heights Road.

Seating is limited. If you’re going, RSVP here.

Here’s the announcement from the organizers:

Many parents and caregivers need assistance to build their comfort and skill level to open and maintain positive communication with the children in their lives, and they aren’t always comfortable providing that information.

As the primary sexuality educator of those children it’s important to remember that communication about sexuality is an ongoing process that can support their health. Participants will learn ways to increase open honest, age-appropriate and balanced talk about sexuality.

Real Life. Real Time. provides valuable information, ideas, opportunities for dialogue, and tools/skills parents and caregivers can use to help the children in their lives make responsible and sexually healthy decisions.

Participants will:

• Identify the importance of their role and the level of their influence as sexuality educators.

• Identify messages their parents gave them about sexuality and the impact of those messages on their sexual health.

• State a broad definition of human sexuality.

• Identify responses they could offer to teen comments/conversation openers. • List some books and websites that provide positive and accurate sexuality information for teens.
