Correction: The Darien RTC Did Not Email an Announcement on Greg Ehlers’ Candidacy

On April 30, Darienite.com reported that an announcement about Darien resident Greg Ehlers’ candidacy for the 25th state Senate District had been sent to Darien Patch, where an article appeared, but apparently nowhere else.

Since the vile practice of making announcements in one publication in town and not anywhere else is a standard habit in Darien (unlike most communities), and since it’s rare for a candidate in Darien for this kind of office to send out a news release before a nomination, we (wrongly) assumed Ehlers had been nominated and therefore the Darien Republican Town Committee was helping his campaign with publicity — at least to the extent of showing the campaign a list of email contacts at the district’s news organizations.

We apologize to the RTC and to our readers for the error.

And we aren’t that angry with Ehlers’ campaign for the mistake (assuming that was all it was) since he hasn’t run for office before, but we remind every organization in town, including campaign organizations, that a list of links to every one of Darien’s news organizations is currently at the bottom of the Home page on the Darien town government website.

If an organization in town can’t be bothered with adding an email address (like Dave@Darienite.com) to a news release email list, and adding email addresses for all the other news organizations in town, what does it say about that organization?

It says they don’t really care about informing the public about what they do. In some cases, it just may stem from ignorance, particularly among volunteers.

Here’s a list of website links and email addresses for every one of the news organizations in town. Where you can post event listings yourself, we’ve provided the link. Each email address listed here may not be exactly the email you should send an announcement to — but the recipient will tell you (we’ve left off the Darien TV79 link below because they don’t publish announcements):
