The entire community is invited to attend this special celebration and enjoy entertainment, ice cream, freshly popped popcorn, and refreshments generously provided by Palmer’s Market.

  • Please call At Home In Darien at 203.655.2227 or visit this page on the website for more information about the anniversary celebration or to register.

The event will commemorate At Home In Darien’s 10th Anniversary and will honor the volunteers who have made the organization’s success possible, including

—friendly visitors who provide support and companionship,

—shoppers who run errands and grocery shop,

—helpers who take care of small tasks,

—callers who share a friendly conversation, and

—seasonal helpers who rake leaves, remove snow from public sidewalks, and clean up yards.

Honorees

In addition, the event will honor a group of hard-working and dedicated volunteers who had the foresight to establish an aging-in-place organization for Darien.

The honorees have provided leadership, support, and guidance through the decade and have significantly contributed to At Home’s success. Kaye Barker, Peter Eder, Charlie England (In Memoriam), Olive Hauser, Diana Kalman, Wyn Lydecker, Ann Mandel, Anne McGuire and Pete Wright (In Memoriam) all worked tirelessly over the past ten years to help make At Home In Darien what it is today.

“Without the hard work and dedication of these men and women, At Home In Darien would not have achieved its tremendous growth over the past 10 years,” said Susan Bhirud, president of the Board of Directors.

“At Home In Darien is a resource available, free of charge, to every Darien resident,” Bhirud said. “It provides important services to help Darien seniors live independently, comfortably and with dignity in their own homes and the community.”

Park Benches Donated

Generous supporters of At Home In Darien have donated four park benches to honor the founders of At Home In Darien. The benches will provide a quiet respite for residents at Weed Beach and Pear Tree Point Beach and will be installed this fall.

Two additional benches will be part of the new expansion project at Weed Beach anticipated to be completed in 2020.
