Elizabeth “Betsy” Trifone, 84, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, Feb. 20.

Elizabeth “Betsy” Trifone, 84, passed away on Feb. 20. Her wake will be on Thursday, March 2, and her funeral the next day.

She was the devoted wife of the late Alfred Trifone who passed in Nov. 2011. Her son, Robert Trifone, is head football coach at Darien High School.

Betsy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 26, 1932 to the late Edward H. and Margaret Clements Dare. While raising her five children, Betsy was active in the parent teacher associations of both McKinley Elementary School and Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield.

She had worked part time at Steinbach Department Store and years later at Kohl’s. Betsy was also a devoted member of Holy Family Church in Fairfield. She and her late husband were known as “Mama and Baba” to their 19 grandchildren. When she found spare time she enjoyed bowling, reading and watching classic old movies.

Betsy leaves her loving children Dr. James Trifone and his wife, Cindy, of Cheshire; Robert Trifone and his wife Marjorie of Darien; Stephen Trifone and his wife, Diane, of Cheshire; John Trifone of Clarksburg, Md.; Nancy Trifone Ferrarese of Fairfield; 19 grandchildren: Alyssa, Abby, Katie, Danny, Christian, Bobby, Mark, Christopher, Nick, Greg, Julie, David, Stephen, Mark, Kristin, Brian, Laura, Kevin and Jenny; four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Buckley.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, 4 Gorham Pl., Trumbull. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 3 at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. All are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be private.
