National Weather Service: It May Freeze Monday Morning in Darien

Have your storm windows down? Got the air conditioner out of the window? Have a potted plant you’ve been meaning to (finally) bring indoors? Now’s the time: It may freeze in the hours just before and after dawn in Darien and the region, the National Weather Service says. The weather service has issued a “Freeze Warning” for an area including Connecticut, most of Long Island, the Hudson Valley and parts of northern New Jersey for 2 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday.

State authorities have issued an “Air Quality Action Day” for southern Connecticut. a day when temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees in Darien and we may see an isolated shower or thunderstorm. “An Air Quality Action Day means that ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards,” according to the National Weather Service. The Weather Underground website says this about Ozone Action Days (and has a list of things you can do to reduce ozone emissions): “An Ozone Action Day is declared when weather conditions are likely to combine with pollution emissions to form high levels of ozone near the ground that may cause harmful health effects.” Here’s the National Weather Service’s Darien-specific forecast for the week (as of the 7:56 a.m. update):

Heat Advisory Issued for Tri-State Area, Darien Included

Baby, it’ll be hot outside: The National Weather Service has issued a “Heat Advisory” for the tri-state area, including Darien, warning people to be careful outdoors because “prolonged exposure to heat and humidity will result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.” The heat advisory, issued for all of Fairfield County and other Metro Area suburbs, starts at noon Sunday and continues until 6 p.m.

Anyone who needs to work outdoors should “schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments,” according to the NWS. Heat stroke is an emergency  — call 911. “Anyone overcome by heat should move to a cool and shaded location,” the weather service advises. For Darien, the National Weather Service predicts: “A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm.
