Both the driver and a passenger in a six-wheeled dump truck were severely injured when the truck appeared to have left the roadway at a sharp turn on Hollow Tree Ridge Road near Allwood Road, police said.
The accident occurred shortly before 9:17 p.m., on Wednesday, May 19, when it was reported to police. Both injured people were treated at the scene by paramedics from Darien Emergency Services-Post 53 and taken to Stamford Hospital.
Because of the severity of their injuries, the Darien Police Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to reconstruct what happened. The truck appeared to have left the roadway while trying to make a turn in the road and seems to have struck a tree before coming to rest against a stone wall, police said.
Six days later, the incident remains under investigation by the Accident Investigation Team.
