Two cases of theft from a mailbox, one occurring Monday, April 13 and the other the next day, were reported to police by two town residents, one on Birch Road and another on Half Mile Road.

The two roads are nowhere near each other. Birch is off the Post Road on the eastern side of town. Half Mile Road is near the New Canaan border.

Police gave these accounts about each incident:

The Birch Road resident, whose home is not far from the Post Road, told police on Tuesday that he saw a letter carrier drive up to his mailbox on Monday and put mail into it. But when he went to get it early the next morning (sometime before 6:44 a.m., when police were called, the box was empty and its door open.

Also missing was a package. He had been notified by a shipper that a package had been delivered and put in the mailbox.

Half Mile Road

The other theft occurred not far from the Mansfield Avenue end of Half Mile Road. On Wednesday, April 15, police received a report from a man who said his mail had been stolen sometime in the previous 24 hours.

He said he had contacted the Post Office which confirmed that mail had been delivered but couldn’t confirm what mail it was.
