A 28-year-old Darien man told town police he did send threatening texts that had been passed on to authorities, but he said he was drunk at the time and wasn’t serious. Police evidently were: They not only arrested him, but set the bond at $100,000, which the man didn’t pay. His court date is Tuesday (today). The man spent the long weekend in jail.

Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At 10:54 a.m., Saturday, police received a tip, apparently including the texts, from a person in Florida. “The content of the texts specifically threatened to commit a crime that would cause a reasonable person to fear for their safety,” the police announcement said.
