A $3,250 Cartier watch left in the Equinox fitness club at 72 Heights Road is missing after its 41-year-old Darien owner left it there, police were told. The incident appears to be a theft by someone who came across the watch, possibly while the woman was showering or just afterward. The incident is very similar to a case the month before at the Darien YMCA, although there’s no reason to believe the two thefts are related. (Finding property and not turning it over to police is considered larceny under Connecticut law.)

The owner told police on Jan. 5 that the day before, at about 9:40 a.m., she was working out at the gym, then went to take a shower and put her clothing and the stainless steel Tank Francaise model watch on a table by the shower stall.
