Sprites Win Gold

Seven judges unanimously ranked the SCSS Sprites (which includes Gabriella Stemp of Darien) in first place for their gold-winning program to Motown classic, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by The Temptations. This is the line’s second gold this season, and their 5th consecutive gold in two seasons. In Saturday’s group of four Synchro Skills Level 2 teams, the Sprites performed their program flawlessly with energy and big smiles.

Local Synchronized Skating Team Gets Gold, Silver in Weekend Tournament

The Southern CT Synchronized Skating team (SCSS) hosted a record number of 76 teams this weekend for the 17th Annual Terry Conners Open. The Sprites part of the team (its youngest members) came in first place in their category; Shimmers finished second place in theirs. The Shadows (the more advanced, older members) came in fifth. Based in Stamford, the team has members from area towns, including Darien. _____________

The SCSS Sprites, a Synchro Skills Level 2 line, won gold on Saturday with their confident performance to Motown classic, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by The Temptations.

Southern CT Skating Team Comes in 2nd Place at Meet in Richmond, VA

The Shadows line of the Southern Connecticut Skating team (SCSS) brought home the silver medal from the Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Richmond, Va. this past weekend.  

This qualifying event hosted over 160 teams from the East Coast for three days of competition. The Shadows line, which includes Darien members Manvi Malhotra and Michelle Han, won 2nd place of 28 Open Juvenile level teams. After their first skate on Thursday night, they placed third of nine teams in the qualifying round. As expected, the championship round was more competitive with 12 finalists.

The Southern Connecticut Skating team (SCSS), which includes three Darien girls, won gold and silver medals at a recent meet with other teams from the Northeast. The Sprites line of the team, which includes Jahnavi Orr of Darien, won a gold medal. The Shadows line, which includes Manvi Malhotra and Michelle Han, won second-place in their competition. The Southern Connecticut Skating team (SCSS) is off to a phenomenal start for the 2015-16 competitive season. Last month each of the team’s three lines won gold at the Terry Conners Open.

Synchronized Figure Skating Team with Darien Girls Wins Gold

Three Darien skaters were part of synchronized figure skating teams that won gold competing against teams from as far as Texas and Maine during a two-day skating event recently at Stamford’s Terry Connors ice rink. The overall Southern Connecticut Synchonized Skating team consists of various “lines” or teams, and the Sprites line includes Darien girls Michele Han and Manvi Malhotra; the Shadows line (for advanced skaters) includes Jahnavi Orr, also from Darien. The Southern Connecticut Synchronized Skating (SCSS) and the Skating Club of Southern Connecticut (SCSC) hosted the 16th annual Terry Conners Synchronized Skating Open where a record number of 74 teams travelled from as far as Texas and Maine. By the time the Shimmers took the ice on Sunday afternoon, two of the three SCSS lines — the Sprites and the Shadows — had already won gold during the two-day synchronized skating event.
