Prescription Drug Drop-off bin

Drop Off Unused, Unneeded Prescription Drugs at the Police Station

You can drop off unused and unneeded prescription drugs at a special bin in the lobby of Darien Police Headquarters, open every day, 24 hours a day — no questions asked, police say. This keeps possibly dangerous medications out of the hands of children and thieves, and it’s environmentally safer than flushing them down the toilet or tossing them in the garbage. Darien police recently issued this announcement reminding residents of the drop-off service:

Properly disposing of unneeded prescription drugs is everyone’s responsibility as a matter of public safety. A recent study showed that 7.4 percent of youths, ranging from 12 to 17 years old, reported non-medical use of prescription drugs during the past year. More than 70 percent of young people abusing prescription pain relievers get them through friends or family, a statistic that includes raiding the family medicine cabinet.
