A 30-year-old Darien man told police he was texting when he hit a tree as he was driving on Hollow Tree Ridge Road, and police smelled marijuana in his car, then found some, police said. He wasn’t injured in the accident, but the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt he was driving was disabled, police said. Matthew Byrne was driving about 270 feet south of his home at 290 Hollow Tree Ridge Road and texting on his phone when, he later told police, his foot slipped off the pedal, causing him to leave the roadway and strike a tree. The accident was reported to police at 6:23 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2.

A 29-year-old man driving a car with windows tinted too much, and a cover over the back license plate tinted so much that it was unreadable, was pulled over by a Darien police officer, resulting in the man’s arrest on multiple charges related to marijuana possession, police said. At 9:48 a.m., a police officer spotted a black Infiniti vehicle being driven west on Tokeneke Road, near its intersection with Cliff Avenue. Not only was there too much tinting on the vehicle, but the front license plate was missing. The officer pulled over the vehicle near Silver Lakes Drive. While talking with the driver, Jason Pratt of Yost Street in Norwalk, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and saw what seemed to be a “blunt” marijuana cigarette on the armrest of the driver’s door.

At 12:23 a.m. on Monday, April 9, a police officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle parked in the lot at 3 Parklands Dr. near the entrance to Sellecks Woods. That spot is known for frequent narcotics-related activity after dark. While approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled the strong odor of marijuana, and found the inside of the vehicle filled with smoke. The Stamford man, sitting in the driver’s seat, said he and his two passengers had just finished smoking some blunts that he had rolled earlier that day.
