Lanphier Day Spa Owner Pleads Guilty to Filing a False Tax Return

The owner of Lanphier Day Spa pleaded guilty in U.S. Federal Court in New Haven to filing a false tax return with the federal government. Nusrat Rizvi, who operates the business at 20 West Ave. with his wife, was accused of failing to report about $144,776 in income from the spa between 2008 and 2010. Rizvi admitted to failing to report part of the cash income from the business. As part of a plea agreement Rizvi agreed to pay the government $50,485 in back taxes and $37,862 in penalties.
