Expert on European Union Speaks at Next Talk in DCA Academic Lecture Series

The second lecture in the 2017 Academic Lecture Series on Global Issues, “Europe- Challenge and Change,” will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Darien Community Association. Professor Daniel Kelemen of Rutgers University has entitled his talk, “Navigating Europe’s Perfect Storm,” and will focus on current movements within and around the changing European Union. Kelemen is currently the Jean Monnet chair and Professor of Political Science at Rutgers. His expertise includes the law, economy and public policy of the EU.

The Darien Community Association’s 2017 Academic Lecture Series on Global Issues begins at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan, 5 with “The Future of the European Union” presented by Dr. Kathleen McNamara, Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Dr. McNamara’s work focuses on the evolution of the European Union, the politics of the Euro and the European Central Bank, and international political issues. She is the author of The Politics of Everyday Europe: Constructing Authority in the European Union, The Currency of Ideas: Monetary Policies in the European Union and Making History: European Integration and Institution Change at Fifty. At Georgetown, Dr. McNamara served as Director of the Mortara Center for International Studies from 2010-2016, building a robust scholarly infrastructure for faculty, a new undergraduate research fellows program, and promoting vibrant interdisciplinary debate over key global changes. She taught at Princeton University and has been a visiting scholar at Russell Sage Foundation, a German Marshall Fund Fellow, and a Fulbright Fellow.
