For some reason, an explosion occurred on a boat on Long Island Sound shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, causing a man to get minor burns on his face, arms and torso when his shirt caught on fire, Darien police said. The man said he jumped into the water to put out the flames on his shirt. Police were called to the scene at 7:27 p.m. on a report that the 19-foot boat was on fire. Officers on the Darien police boat took the man to shore, where a Darien EMS-Post 53 ambulance took him to a hospital for treatment. The Norwalk Fire Marine Division took care of the boat.
