An 18-foot motorboat carrying four people capsized, possibly after hitting a rock sometime before 8 p.m. Wednesday, about 100 yards off Shippan Point in Stamford, Darien police said. Darien police gave this account of the incident:

Stamford police asked for help from the Darien police boat, and Marine Unit 127 was the first on the scene. Four people were in the water, two of them clinging to the sunken boat. All four were safely rescued. The four said they were unharmed, but police took them to shore in Stamford, where a Stamford EMS ambulance crew looked them over as a precaution.
