Amid the pandemic of postponements and cancelations related to COVID-19, add Darien’s 2020 Household Hazardous Waste Day — because the vendor is considered “nonessential” by state authorities, an announcement from the town Department of Public Works announced.

But the announcement said there will be other household hazardous waste drop-off events in nearby towns where Darien residents can go, and the department plans to post them on its web page.

Here’s the announcement:

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Darien will not hold a Household Hazardous Waste Day in June of this year (2020).

Our vendor has been deemed “non-essential” and prohibited from working.  Once our vendor is capable of resuming work, the Town of Darien will schedule a household hazardous waste day.

The Town of Darien has a reciprocal arrangement with other surrounding towns.  There will be other dates and places where Darien residents can participate in household hazardous waste day, without fee.

The Town of Darien will post on our web page, a list of other towns events, once available.  Please check the DPW webpage at www.darienct.gov
