Two Stamford 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old were charged with stealing a motor vehicle Friday night, after police found them in an SUV on Hoyt Street that someone reported as suspicious.

Darien police provided these additional details in an account that includes accusations not proven in court:

At 10:15 p.m., police received the report of a suspicious motor vehicle at 443 Hoyt St., across the street from Woodway Country Club. Officers who went there saw a red Toyota SUV in the driveway. The three teenage boys were in it.

They told police they had gotten lost looking for a party. A routine check of motor vehicle records for the SUV’s license plate showed it had been reported stolen in Stamford.

When confronted with that information, the driver said he had borrowed the vehicle from a friend. The three boys were taken into custody.

All three teens were taken to Darien Police Headquarters and issued summonses to appear in Juvenile Court in Stamford. Their parents were called and picked them up.
