Mary Elizabeth Cohee, a resident of Regalcare Greenwich, passed peacefully in her sleep after a prolonged battle with cancer on Sept. 16, 2021.
She was born on July 30, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio. From the time she could speak, she declared herself an artist, a love in which she indulged her entire life.
After several moves to Hopkins, Minnesota and Wyncote, Pennsylvania, the family finally settled in Darien in the late 1960s, where Mary spent the bulk of her childhood. She graduated from Darien High School in 1975 and attended Wheaton College.
Although challenged by disability, Mary managed to overcome it with remarkable success and live a productive and independent life in Greenwich, Connecticut. She was a favorite resident of Pathways and a top shelver in the Greenwich Library’s Children’s Room (she loved talking with the children) for over 25 years. She was an active and resolute participant in arts and therapeutic organizations in the community: everybody loved her.
Mary is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mignon Cohee Reynolds and Roger Reynolds of Lake Oswego, Oregon; her sister and brother-in-law, Katherine Cohee Taylor and Stuart Taylor of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and her nephew, Aaron Reynolds of Minneapolis. She was predeceased by her mother, Roberta Mackenzie; her father, George E. Cohee Jr.; and her brother, George E. Cohee III. She is considered family by Pathways.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021 at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
Anyone attending the burial will be required to wear a mask to protect family members that are high risk as well as front line workers that are in the family.
