The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for the residents of Darien. Registration for programs takes place online, at the Parks and Recreation office located in Town Hall, or through the mail.

Blue Wave Wrestling Club

Darien High School Wrestling coach Joe Testa will be offering wrestling classes at Darien High School this fall. Goals are to develop wrestler’s skills in scholastic wrestling. Emphasis on technique, match preparation, mental preparation, goal setting, conditioning, and weight training. Requirements: Every Wrestler must have a USA Wrestling Card and wrestling shoes. Copy of your current card must be presented at 1st session. USA Wrestling Memberships run from September-August. Go to www.usawmembership.com to update your card or sign up for a new membership.

Class will be held on Mondays & Tuesdays from September 16th – November 19th. Beginner/intermediate (2 years or less experience) will meet from 5:30 – 6:30pm. Intermediate/advanced wrestlers will meet from 6:30 – 7:30pm. The fee for this program is $200/Darien resident; $240/non-resident.

Young Woodworkers Club

This class will get the kids away from their devices and teach them the valuable life skill of woodworking. Each session the kids will complete and paint or stain a real wood project that they will be able to play with immediately when it is finished. They will enjoy the same sense of satisfaction parents get when completing their own DIY project. Projects in past classes have been building a locking box, a step stool, model airplane and many more.

Class will be held on Wednesdays at the Weed Beach paddle tennis building from September 25th – October 23rd. Ages 5 – 10 will meet from 4 – 5pm while ages 10 – 13 will meet from 5:30 – 6:30pm. The fee for this program is $150/Darien resident; $180/non-resident.

FUNdamentals with Legos

Master your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as: Boats, Snowmobiles, Arch Bridges and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Class will be held on Tuesday afternoons in room 205 of the Mather Center from September 24th – October 29th. This program, designed for students in grades K – 5, will meet from 4 – 5:30pm. The fee for this program is $130/Darien resident; $156/non-resident.

Mad Science

Ages 3 – 5 – Put on your science goggles and come on a Science Adventure! Scientists in Training will gain a basic understanding of all different areas of science while doing intriguing, hands on, experiments! This program covers everything from cool dry ice to hot air balloons, from dinosaurs to a rocket launch that is out of this world, and much more! Classes will be held on Thursday afternoons from 2 – 2:45pm in room 119 of Town hall. Ages 5 (must be in at least Kindergarten) – 8 – Calling all future doctors and scientists! Step into our Anatomy Academy, with a Mad Science pedometer, and come on a journey with us inside the human body! Excavate a real dissection to learn about body systems and nutrition; create a slimy, blood clot to bring home; use glow in the dark technology to discover how to protect our skin and how skin protects; use microslide viewers and test tubes to view cells and DNA close up; and put your hands on more real life doctor tools and experiments that will blow your mind! This program is jammed packed with both knowledge and fun! Classes will be held on Thursday afternoons from 4 – 5pm in room 205 of the Mather Center.

The fee for this program is $180/Darien resident; $215/non-resident. Piano Lessons: This revolutionary piano program builds a musical foundation and creates a hobby that will last a lifetime! Classroom keyboards and all materials are included in the registration fee. These group classes are a continuing educational program that will run for 9 week intervals.

Class will be held on Tuesday afternoons in room 133 of the Mather Center from October 1st – December 3rd for ages 6 – 12 from 4 – 5 pm. The fee for this program is $200/Darien resident; $240/non-resident.
