Darien Girls Swim and Dive Team Advances to State Finals on Tuesday

The Darien Girls Swim and Dive Team will advance to state finals Tuesday, Nov. 16. But wait, it doesn’t stop there — of all CT State finals competitions the top 24 times swimmers and the top 24 divers will head to Opens on Nov. 21 for one season-ending finale.

After completing a season 7-1 and ending the dual meets as Eastern Division champs, Darien High School swimmers and divers took their heat to the pool on Saturday night, Nov. 6, a total of 15 DHS swimmers and 4 divers competed in the FCIAC finals.

A day in the life of a DHS swimmer and diver — wake up, eat, go to practice, eat, go to school, eat, go to practice, eat, do homework sleep and repeat! These girls practice six days a week and their work showed!

After a year of not being able to hold championships against other teams in person it was a competitive, and loud, night! DHS outperformed.

While the team placed 3^rd overall (by 1 point), each individual laid down one gauntlet after another.

Highlights include:

200 Medley Relay:  Meg Erickson(J), Miller Ward(S), Emily Kalvaitis(J), and Natalia Ferranto(J) Placing 2^nd and earning All-FCIAC 1.47.50

200 Freestyle Lily Bradbury (J) placing 5^th 1.57.91 and Maggie Sedlak (S) placing 9^th 1.57.20

200 Individual Medley Miller Ward (S) placing 2^nd earning All-FCIAC 2.03.80 and Meg Erickson (J) placing 6^th 2.11.32

50 Freestyle Natalia Ferranto (J) placing 2^nd earning All-FCIAC 24.11

1 meter diving Megan Hayes (F) placing 7^th 373.75 pts.

100 Butterfly Miller Ward(S)* placing 1^st earning All-FCIAC 54.88 and Emily Kalviatis (J) placing 4^th 57.71
