You can find out about con artists and how to counter them at “The Con Artist Playbook: A Look Inside the Mind of a Criminal,” a presentation from Darien Police Department and the AARP Fraud Watch Network.
The one-hour presentation will be held both from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 in the Conference Room at Darien Library.
Although the Police Department is presenting this in conjunction with an organization for senior citizens, nothing in the announcement indicates the presentation is only for seniors.
Here’s the announcement from Darien Library:
Join us for a look inside the mind of a criminal to understand the psychology behind ID theft, fraud, other scams affecting your family and community. Participants will learn tips and tools on the latest scams in Connecticut and nationwide.
We are offering two sessions for greater convenience: Wednesday at 10 a.m. or the Thursday at 7 p.m.
Brought to you by the Darien Police Department and the AARP Fraud Watch Network.
The AARP Fraud Watch Network
The 38 million-member AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) has a chunk of its website devoted to the AARP Fraud Watch Network, which provides various services, including a phone help line for those who suspect a scam against themselves or a loved one, a map widget to look up types of fraud in a particular area and the “Fraud Resource Center,” an online library of articles advising readers on how particular types of frauds work.
