David McKinlay Jones passed away in his home in Tucson on Dec. 27, 2021 from unknown natural causes. Born in 1956 and raised in Darien, Dave graduated from Dartmouth and the University of Arizona with degrees in geology. Over his 40-year career he became a leader in Mexico’s gold exploration industry. Dave was an avid climber, caver, kayaker and guitar player.
Charles H. Dana, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, in Lake Bluff, Illinois, surrounded by family. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Newton and Edith Dana on July 30, 1939. He moved to Darien in 1954, where he met the love of his life, Ann Harper, and they were married on Nov. 25, 1960.
Irene “Carol” Kubovic died peacefully on Dec. 25, 2021 at AdventHealth Orlando. She was 82. She was the devoted wife and partner to John Kubovic for over 60 years. Carol was born on the Fourth of July in 1939 in Troy, New York.
Katherine Kelly Young passed away on Dec. 31, 2021 in New Canaan. She was 59. Katy was born on April 11, 1962 in New York City to Robert Jackson Kelly Jr. and Patricia Cohalan Kelly. She grew up in Darien and was a graduate of Darien High School.
Cameron Herbert Repp a resident of Norwalk, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 12, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Herbert Nelson Repp and Lavinia Stuart Repp. Cameron attended Hindley Elementary, Deerfield Academy and Kent State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. He then went onto have several jobs which included working for Walden Books, Yacht Haven, Rings End Lumber, Lloyd Lumber and Creative Cabinetry.
Carol Jean Swanson Brown, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2021. She was 85. Carol was born on March 27, 1935 in Stamford, to Florence (Daly) and Carl Herbert Swanson. Raised in Darien, Carol was a member of the Darien High School class of 1953.
Dorothy Theresa (Hanrahan) Shillinglaw of Darien passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, 2021 at Stamford Hospital. She was 93. Dorothy was born in the Bronx on Sept. 30, 1928 to the late Edward Francis and Dorothy Josephine (Riley) Hanrahan.
Patrick M. Raffaele, 82, died comfortably at home in Newtown on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021. A longtime resident of Darien, Patrick was born on Nov. 25, 1939 in Stamford, where he met his wife, Winifred (Ambrose) Raffaele during their high school years. The two were married for 60 years and raised three children together.
Judith “Judy” Henry passed away on Dec. 8, 2021. She was 79. Judy was born on Oct. 3, 1942 in Syracuse, New York to Eugene and Bertha Stoll and raised in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey.
Edith Omicioli, formally a resident of Portland for over 60 years, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown, New Hampshire, at the age of 92. She was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Darien to John Levay and Florence (Stevens) Levay. Edith worked at Queens Convalescent Homes in Middletown, Stonehaven, and Portland Connecticut and Elmcrest, also in Portland, before retiring.
Maude Marie Morley passed away on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021. She was 92. Born on Sept. 16, 1929 in Regina, Saskatchewan, she was the only daughter of the late Edward and Charlotte Kern.
On Friday, Dec. 10, Richard “Dick” Terhune said goodbye to this world and strode into the light to rejoin the love of his life, Gretchen Reiche Terhune. Dick was 86 years awesome and a resident of OceanView in Falmouth, Maine. Despite the brief illness that laid him low at the end, he was a six-and-a-half-foot hunk blessed with good health, great humor, chronic curiosity and an affectionate, adoring personality that brightened the lives of his beloved family and many, many friends. Milton R. Graham, 87, of Norwalk passed away Monday, Dec. 13 at the Brightview Assisted Living Center in Norwalk. Mr. Graham was born July 28, 1934, in Defreestville, New York. He was the son of Russell and Lucile (Tucker) Graham. He married Gertrude Jo (Engle) Graham on June 13, 1959 at Munn Avenue Presbyterian Church in East Orange, New York.
Glen Bruce VanCura of Rowayton, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2021 at Greenwich Hospital. He was 57. He was born to the late Joseph Clement VanCura and Kathleen (Kitty) Moody of Goshen, New York on April 5, 1964. An avid cyclist all his life, Glen attained ownership of Dave’s Cycle in Cos Cob in 1992, and took great pride in running his business and embracing his customers for the past 30 years.
With heavy hearts but boundless love and appreciation, the family of Eileen B. Hanford announce the Dec. 3 passing of their beloved wife and mother at the age of 73. Born in 1948 to Anna and Peter Brabazon, Eileen B. Hanford was the youngest of seven children and made a point of letting everyone she met know this about her. She attended St. Andrew Avelino School and Mary Immaculate Boarding School in Ossining, New York, where she graduated in 1966.
