A man now 65 years old was arrested last Wednesday after an investigation into a 2023 attempt to use a phony Maryland driver’s license to withdraw $2,500 from M&T Bank in Darien, police said.
Darien police gave this further account, including accusations not proven in court:

Justo Garcia, 65, arrested on an accusation he tried to withdraw money from a bank using a phony ID.
Police went to the bank in Old Kings Market, 25 Old Kings Hwy. North, at about 4:30 p.m. in response to a report of an attempted larceny. A bank employee said a man tried to withdraw the money using the fraudulent license.
The man, later identified as Justo Garcia of 1013 180th St. in the Bronx, had fled the bank, leaving behind the phony ID and a withdrawal slip. Darien police detectives identified Garcia with bank surveillance records obtained after a search warrant. Police later applied for an arrest warrant, which a judge approved.
Garcia “has a lengthy criminal history involving financial fraud,” police said in a news release. (A web search by Darienite.com indicated that “Justo Garcia” is a relatively common name and multiple people with the name have been arrested in unrelated cases.)
He was arrested in Needham, Massachusetts this past July and later waived extradition. Darien police took him back to Connecticut, where he was charged with third-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery and third-degree criminal attempt at larceny.
He was unable to post the original court-set bond of $75,000 and was taken to state Superior Court in Stamford on Oct. 23. His bail now is set at $100,000 and he remains in jail. His next court date is Dec. 16.
