With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we bid farewell to Judith Webb Kilmartin, a beloved mother and grandmother (known affectionately as GrandMummy or GM), who passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
After bravely battling metastatic melanoma, Judy passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital at the youthful age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. She was the beloved daughter of Vincent C. Webb, M.D., and Margaret English Webb, and was predeceased by her parents and husband, Donald Joseph Kilmartin Jr. (“Don” aka “Pop Pop”).
After graduating from Skidmore College, she moved to New York City, where she met her husband, Donald J. Kilmartin Jr. With Don by her side, Judy’s heart became firmly anchored in Noroton Bay, where she spent more than 40 years developing life-long friendships and was honored with the title, “Queen of the Bay.”
Together with Don, they built a loving and vibrant family that lit up the Bay with laughter, boating adventures, swim races, and quiet (and sometimes not-so-quiet) dinners on the deck. Her dedication and passion shone brightly at Person to Person, where she served as director of volunteers for over four decades.
A devotee of the game of bridge, Judy enjoyed every gathering with her “bridge ladies,” mastering the game and never missing a lesson. She was beautifully skilled in the art of needlepoint and always had a project (or 10) going at any given time, leaving behind many beautiful and cherished pieces of art for her family to treasure.
In her later years, Judy’s favorite activity was watching her grandsons grow up. She was a regular fixture on the 50-yard line at every football and lacrosse game, traveling the state and braving all sorts of weather, cheering on her boys with unwavering pride. Her presence is already dearly missed, but we take solace in knowing she’s watching from afar and likely hosting luncheons and spirited rounds of bridge with her friends and loved ones who have gone on before her.
Judy is survived by her sister, Cheryl Lee Webb (Jacqueline L. Gow), her brother Vincent (Jeff) Cosmas Webb (Lynda Pariseau Webb), her two boys, Donald III (DJ) (Joanne Gibbs Kilmartin), Douglas Kilmartin (Mandy Myers Kilmartin), and grandsons, Jack and Finn Kilmartin.
A celebration of life honoring Judy’s vibrant life and legacy, will be held on June 13. A heartfelt tribute filled with cherished memories, laughter, music, and, of course, a sunset, will prove to be a fitting celebration for our beloved Judy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Person-to-Person or to Explorer Post 53, both in Darien.
