A “Rally for Ukraine,” will be held in front of Darien Town Hall, organized by the Action Network of Darien Democrats.

“All are welcome to Darien’s community event to show support for a country in crisis,” the group announced. The event starts at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5.

Update: An announcement from the organizers:

The siege on Ukraine may be happening half a world away, but its impact is felt here in Darien. So, a group of local residents has organized the Rally for Ukraine to be held Saturday, March 5 at 4:30 pm outside Darien Town Hall.

The event is being organized by the Action Network of Darien Democrats (ANDD), but as ANDD Chair Dan Guller says, it will be strictly non-partisan.

“Wanting to see Ukraine remain independent and free from aggression is an issue all Americans can agree on,” Guller said. “It’s a helpless feeling to see people suffering and not knowing how you can help. We’ll be providing attendees with resources they need to provide aid to the people of Ukraine.”

Speakers will include members of Fairfield County’s large Ukrainian community and local clergy, including Bishop Paul Chomnycky of the Ukrainian Catholic Diocese of Stamford. First Selectman Monica McNally, State Representative Terrie Wood, and State Senator Bob Duff are also scheduled to speak.

“We’re hoping that this event will help empower Darien residents by making our support for Ukraine unequivocal,” Guller said.
