Being a train conductor seems like a simple, boring job: collecting tickets, opening and closing doors, reminding people to keep their feet off the seats. Yawn.
But there’s a lighter side to the job, as I wrote a few years ago, based on former conductor Michael Shaw’s great book, “My Rail Life” after he retired from a 36 year career on the New Haven line. He clearly loved his job. And he swears these stories are true.

Three thieves entered Stop and Shop supermarket in Goodwives Shopping Center early Saturday morning wearing hoods and facemasks, then loaded up shopping carts with large containers of laundry detergent and left without paying, police were told.
It took about a minute for a thief to steal leaf blower in a trailer parked on Deerfield Road on Saturday, Nov. 6, according to police.
Charlene Rae (Corbin) Holmes of Darien passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 29, 2021, with her family present and near her bedside. She was 90.

The Tiny Miracles Foundation, a Darien-based not-for-profit organization set up to help area families with premature babies, has announced Tina Tison as its new executive director.
Update, 5:58 p.m.: Schools Superintendent Alan Addley has told Darien elementary school parents that the district will tell them about other opportunities for getting vaccinations after reservations for a town sponsored clinic were snapped up quickly — in roughly as little as half an hour, according to one parent.
Nancy J. Stoetzer died at home peacefully in Eagle, Colorado, on Oct. 19, 2021, at the age of 81.
At 4:38 p.m. the Darien Registrars of Voters Office released the count of both absentee ballots, ballots from newly registered voters and votes cast at polling stations around town.
