Justine Arata Robinson, 94, died peacefully with family and friends, on July 21. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 9, 1924, the daughter of Louis and Phyllis (Kerr) Arata, Justine spent her formative years in Old Greenwich. She graduated in 1943 from Harcum Junior College where she majored in interior design. On Sept. 11 of the same year, Justine and Sanford “Sam” Robinson, of Greenwich, Connecticut, were married.

Barbara Hoehn, a longtime resident of Darien, passed away on July 19. She was 94 years old. She was born in New York City and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Florence Hoehn. Barbara grew up in Scarsdale, NY and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1941. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College in 1945.

Leslie Anne McGill, a resident in the STAR residential program in Norwalk and formerly of Darien, passed away on July 25. She was 59. The third child of Donald and Carol McGill of Darien, Leslie was born at Stamford Hospital on June 9, 1959. She was a happy, smiling baby who loved her parents, siblings and family cats, all of whom returned their love for her in equal measure. Leslie attended Darien schools from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and was in the school district’s first special education program; she was a proud graduate of Darien High School.

Daniel Pierson Redmond, M.D., of Silver Spring, MD passed away Friday, July 27. He was 76. He moved to Darien as a teenager in 1955 and graduated from Darien High School in 1960. After becoming a physician, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and spent 33 years in the service. He was the beloved husband of the late Suzanne Kreiner Redmond; father of Matthew O. Redmond, Sean P. Redmond, Rev. Nicholas E. Redmond, and Bonnie R. Lindsly; grandfather of Anna O. Redmond and Abigail D. and Oliver T. Lindsly; brother of John C. and Gregory N. Redmond and the late Richard C. Redmond.

Lydia Tyner Anderson, age 95 died peacefully on July 21 at Maplewood Assisted Living in Darien. A daughter of Eileen and Ralph Tyner, she was a lifelong resident of Old Greenwich. She attended the Grey Court School and graduated from Vassar College in 1944. She worked as an editor at Time Life magazine until she married James Anderson III, also of Old Greenwich. She was active in town affairs for many years.

Michael Zeman, 67, the dynamic and beloved minister emeritus of Talmadge Hill Community Church in Darien, died on July 18 in the loving embrace of his family. The son of Inez and Erwin Zeman, Mich was born in Ogden Utah in 1950 and raised in Lincoln, NE where he co-founded the infamous Rubber Band. He graduated from Colorado College in 1972. In 1971, he married Mary Tidball, and together they moved to East Africa to teach and lead the construction of a village school and water pipeline in northern Kenya. Mich earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska  in 1977 and a Master of Divinity from Yale University in 1982, after which he served as associate pastor and led for many years the youth ministry at Norfield Church in Weston.

Thomas “Tom” Mehler Ludwig, consummate salesman, people-person, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away July 19 in Charlotte, NC after a short battle with cancer. He was 75. Tom had a salesman’s sensibility and made fast friends with just about everyone he met. Even at the end of his life while sick in the hospital, nurses came to visit “my guy.”

Throughout his life, Tom loved his job, his friends and customers, visiting the beach, gardening, grilling, scotch, and cheap cigars — unless you bought him the good ones. Tom was born in Philadelphia on Aug.

Mary Lukovsky, a former Darien resident, recently passed away. She was 92. She was born May 21, 1926 to Andrew and Mary (Szanto) Lukovsky of Darien. Mary was predeceased by her parents, a sister Emma and a brother Elmer. After the passing of her sister, Mary was placed with the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services at Mansfield Training School from 1970 through 1974 and then moved to a home in Danielson.

Born on April 5, 1939 in Riga, Latvia, he was the son of the late Ernest and Wilhelmina (Germanis) Ozols. Peter left Latvia in 1944 to escape from communism to war torn German occupied Poland. He immigrated to the United States in 1949 and settled in North Dakota and
then moved to New York state and eventually to Stamford.

Carl Emil Hathaway, 84, of Norwalk, formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on July 15, surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, the son of Carl Barbour Hathaway and Tekla Neumaier Hathaway, he graduated from the Baker Elementary School, then Brookline High School in 1951, and Harvard University in 1955. As an R.O.T.C. student at Harvard, he played hockey and baseball. He served in the US Navy to Lieutenant J.G. and tried out for the 1956 Olympic hockey team before getting his M.B.A. at Cornell Business School in 1959. He began his 22 year career at 23 Wall Street with the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, where in 1968 he became the youngest senior vice president in the firm’s history, managing over $9 billion of assets in corporate pension accounts, and was labeled the Go-go Kid of Wall Street.

William John (“Bill”) Teplica, Jr., 68, of Marietta passed away on Thursday, July 12. Mr. Teplica was raised in Darien and was a graduate of the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH. He retired as a salesman from IBM, where he was recognized for his many achievements. He was an avid sports fan and golfer, and he played soccer and softball well into his forties. Mr. Teplica loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and working outside.
