For the second time this year a Norwalk man was found trespassing at Palmers Market, Darien police said.
In the latest incident, Thursday evening, Augustine Duffey, 25, of Finch Court was found with stolen items and charged with first-degree trespassing and sixth-degree larceny (both misdemeanors) according to police.
Darien police gave this account of the matter, including accusations not proven in court:
Police went to the supermarket at 246 Heights Road at about 7:24 p.m. Palmer’s employees identified Duffey as the suspect. Police confronted him in the parking lot.
Officers found Duffey had stolen items from the store, which were returned. He wasn’t able to post a $100 bond, so he was jailed overnight and appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford the next morning. There the bond was dropped. Duffey’s next court appearance in the case is scheduled for Sept. 5.
Police said Duffey was found trespassing in a similar incident at Palmer’s Market earlier this year. According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, Darien police have arrested Duffey two times this year before the Thursday arrest:
— first-degree criminal trespassing (a misdemeanor), arrested April 21
— third-degree criminal trespassing (a misdemeanor), arrested Aug. 18
The same website lists two additional cases in which Duffey was charged by Norwalk police:
— assault and disorderly conduct (both misdemeanors), arrested Sept. 25, 2024
— first-degree criminal trespassing, arrested May 5
