New Elementary Education Director Appointed for Darien Schools

The Interim Superintendent of Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jennifer Falcone has been appointed director of elementary education, Interim Schools Superintendent Eric Byrne announced.

Dr. Jennifer Falcone will be the next director of elementary education for Darien schools. She’ll start the job in August.

Falcone, who starts her job in Darien in August, will replace Julie Droller, who retired in June.

“Dr. Falcone brings a wide range of experiences that will serve her well in her new role as director of elementary [education] in Darien,” Byrne said in an announcement emailed Tuesday morning.

Jennifer began her teaching career in Norwalk Public Schools, where she served as a fourth grade teacher at Tracey Elementary School. Jennifer next worked in Brookfield Public Schoolsin a variety of positions, including elementary classroom teacher,  remedial reading teacher at Whisconier Middle School, English language learner coordinator (K through 12), literacy and social studies curriculum coordinator for Grades 5 through 8 and district elementary literacy specialist for Grades K through 6.

From 2008 to 2013 she served as the K-12 program coordinator for reading and language arts for the Greenwich Public Schools.

While in Greenwich, Jennifer led several district initiatives, including the modification of student supports and interventions, the development of vertically and horizontally aligned, standards-based curriculum, and strategic planning in the areas of data teams, technology, and standards-based report cards.

Starting in 2013, Jennifer assumed the position of principal of Cider Mill Elementary School in Wilton, a position in which she will continue in prior to her start in Darien in August.

In her current position, Jennifer established learning walks and peer observations, improved academic performance and student learning outcomes by cultivating an accelerated learning framework and data-driven professional learning, forged stronger home-to-school relationships, and integrated the Common Core Standards and backward design theory into transdisciplinary and core curricula.

“I am honored to join the Darien Public Schools as the director of elementary education,” Falcone said in the announcement. “As a passionate and collaborative instructional leader, I am excited to learn alongside the talented educators, students, and families of Darien.

“I look forward to building on the district’s strong foundation and continuing the important work of fostering joyful, rigorous, and engaging learning for all.”

Falcone received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut in early childhood education, a master’s degree from Sacred Heart University in Elementary Education, a Sixth Year Professional Certificate in reading and language arts consultant/remedial reading from Central Connecticut State University, and her Intermediate Administrator Certificate and doctorate from Western Connecticut State University.

She has also served as a doctoral advisor at Western Connecticut and an adjunct professor at both Western and Central Connecticut State Universities.
