A 44-year-old woman was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after she caused a minor motor vehicle accident last Wednesday on the Post Road, police said.

After Darien police found more than 15 teenagers, aged 16 to 18 years old, at a party Friday on Palmer Lane with lots of alcohol consumption, the parents of the teenage host were each charged with failure to halt illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, police said.

Ann Elizabeth Hickey Sollas of Point Pleasant, N.J., passed away peacefully in her home with her husband by her side on Feb. 21, 2016 after a short struggle with cancer. She was 85 years old.

The State of Connecticut has major budget problems, short-term and long-term. On Thursday, Feb. 25, the nonpartisan Office of Fiscal Analysis revised its deficit projections for the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2016 to $266 million, its third negative revision in as many months. The budget for the next fiscal year beginning July 1, 2016 is now out of balance by $900 million compared to original assumptions. Each of the two following years have deficits of $2 billion, more than 10 percent of the state’s operating budget.
A Louisiana grand jury has indicted Frank Szeles (formerly Frank John Selas III), a former Darien resident, on charges related to accusations of raping children when he was host of a children’s show in the 1970s.
