James Joseph Coatsworth passed away on March 4. He was 80 years old. Jim was born on April 15, 1937 in Denver to James and Grace Coatsworth. Raised in Darien, Jim was graduated from Darien High School in 1955 and from Cornell University in 1959. At Cornell, he met his future wife Joan Sargent.
It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Kinsley Morse (Hewitt) announce her sudden death from a heart attack on Jan. 21. She was a loving wife to her husband, Clifford (“Kip”) Hewitt for 41 years and a devoted mother to their son, Thayer (age 10). Kinsley was born Aug. 25, 1952 in Alexandria, Va.
Richard H. Smith, Jr. of Naples, FL died on Feb. 22, after a long battle with cancer. He was 74. Rick was born on Oct. 9, 1943 in Stamford to parents Richard and Jeanette Smith.
Nicholas P. Tarantino, 63, of Darien passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, Feb. 27. He was born on Sept. 21, 1954 to the late Anthony and Lucy DiBlasio Tarantino. Nicholas was a Local 3 IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) electrician at Hugh O’Kane Electric for more than 22 years.
Dante R. “Chic” Chicatell, passed away peacefully at the age of 104 with his family at his side on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018. He was 104 years old and a resident of Darien for the past 63 years. Born in Stamford on Nov. 24, 1913, he was the son of the late Mariano and Antoinette Chicatell.
Florence Genovese , 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Feb. 19. She was born in Darien on April 6, 1935 to the late James and Cecelia Langford Tiano. Florence was married for 49 years to her high school sweetheart, Rocky. Florence was a loving mother and especially loved to take care of her grandchildren.
Ralph F. Tucci, age 91 of Norwalk, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 18. He was the loving husband for over 68 years of Gloria Conklin Tucci. Ralph was born in Norwalk on Oct. 24, 1926, the son of the late Orazio and Francesca Fiore Tucci.
Stuart Duffield, 90, a 50-year resident of Darien, died peacefully at home on Feb. 12, 2018. He and his wife had resided at Maplewood of Darien for the past two years. He was born on April 24, 1927 in Elizabeth, N.J. to Stuart and Mildred Duffield. Stuart graduated from Cranford High School in Cranford, N.J., where he was all state in football and basketball.
John Mitchell Lucas died early in the morning of Jan. 21 in Darien. He had been ill with Parkinson’s disease for a long time. He is survived by his wife Kathy Neilan Lucas (née Krieger) whom he married in June of 2002. They have no children.
Robert Morgan Fitzmaurice, “Fitzy”, of Darien, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Stamford Hospital. Born on Oct. 22, 1928 in Stamford, he was the son of the late William Henry and Anna Josephine (Kingsley) Fitzmaurice. Robert worked as a butcher at the A&P and was better known as “Fitzy” from the Colony Grill in Stamford for over 50 years.
Jean Marie Arneberg, 86, died peacefully after a brief illness on Feb. 6 in Clearwater, Fl. She was born on April 18, 1931 in Hartford, the only child of Elsie and Robert Overhysser. The valedictorian of her high school class, she attended Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Following her graduation, she met her husband, Tor Arneberg, on a ship bound for Europe.
Surrounded by his loving wife and children, James Louis Mazurek, 74, of Bradenton, Fl. died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 1, after a long struggle with cancer in Lakewood Ranch, Fl. Born Jan. 26, 1943 in Stamford, he was the youngest son of the late Edward and Mary (Boska) Mazurek.
Robert K. Russell Sr. died suddenly, but quickly in his home on Friday morning, Feb. 2, two weeks shy of his 76th birthday.
Raised in both Shaker Heights, Ohio and then Glenview, Il., Bob was the son of William Hunter Russell and Harriet (Purves) Russell. A young man with bright auburn hair, he was known to many by the moniker “Rooster.”
At Glenbrook North High School Bob was an outstanding athlete and played varsity baseball for four years, among other sports. He also played baseball for the University of Arizona between 1960-1964. A natural leader with excellent interpersonal skills, he was the catcher of his baseball team and the President of his beloved Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) house.
Michael A. Bologna, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan. 31. He was 87 years old. Mike was born in Greenwich to Pietro and Maria Bologna on July 18, 1930. One of six children, he quickly demonstrated his natural talent for all things mechanical.
Linda Amerling Scull of Rowayton, and formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Feb. 3, after fighting a long courageous battle against Liposarcoma cancer. She was 80. Linda was born on March 9, 1937 in Glen Ridge, N.J. to Charles and Millicent Amerling. She attended Montclair High School and earned her B.A. degree in Sociology from Skidmore College in 1959.
