Rande James Wilson, 67, passed away at home in Darien on May 11, 2020, at age 67 in the company of his loving partner Eautha Munkelwitz. Born born July 1, 1952, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Rande attended Plymouth High School in Michigan. He graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a degree in environmental science and earned his MBA from Anna Maria College in Massachusetts. Rande was an accomplished mariner, serving as a coxswain in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 72. He was a public affairs specialist and was stationed in New Orleans for the Deepwater Horizon incident response.

Walter J. Wright, known to his family and friends as Bud, passed away at his home in Tequesta, Forida on May 4, 2020 with his loving wife Joyce by his side. He was 89 years old. Formerly of West Tisbury, Massachusetts and Martha’s Vineyard, Darien, New Canaan, and Port Washington, New York, Bud grew up in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, which gave him a lifelong love of being on the water. He was a graduate of The Bronx High School of Science. His various careers included theatrical lighting on “Your Show of Shows,” real estate, restaurateur, commodities broker and franchise creator.

Patricia A. Richmond of Concordville, Pennsylvania entered the life eternal on May 11, 2020. A native of Newton, Massachusetts, Pattie was born to the late Haven W. and Virginia Hatch Andrews. At an early age she recognized an interest in working with children and upon graduation from Newton High School studied at Wheelock College in Brookline, majoring in early childhood education. Following graduation, she accepted a teaching position in the public schools of Darien. It was here that she met her husband of 64 years, Bob.

Helga Trohan, a resident of Darien, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in town. She was 91. Born on Jan. 9, 1929 in Durach, Bavaria, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Olga (Gast) Feigele. Helga is survived by three daughters: Patricia Pellingra and her husband, Steve, of Rocklin, California; Inga Bleich and her husband, David, of Columbus, Ohio; and Rebecca Smith of Darien; as well as four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Glenn James Reinardy, formerly of Darien, died from congestive heart failure on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 in his home in Stamford. He was 75. He was born in Red Wing, Minnesota on June 16, 1944 and raised in the same state, first in New Trier, then Hastings. He is survived by his children, Lynn Turner of Philadelphia and Michael (Michelle) Reinardy of San Francisco; his brother-in-law, Gerry Cernohous of West Des Moines, Iowa; siblings Joan (Jerry) Anderson of Rosemount, Ted Reinardy of Maple Grove and Geralyn (Reed) Reinardy-Wolff of Apple Valley. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia; sister, Judy Cernohous; and infant son, Jacob Casey Reinardy.

Herman Joseph Eckrich Jr. died on May 9, 2020 holding hands with the person he loved most in the world, his wife Jeanne. Herm and Jeanne were married for 63 years. Thanks to the incredible care that he received from the Edgehill Harbor staff and Hospice, the end was peaceful and comfortable. He never complained while dying of complications from Parkinson’s disease. Herm, or Sonny as he was fondly called as a child, was the eldest son born in 1933 to Herman Eckrich Sr. and Lucy Pauline Eckrich.

Jonathan “Jon” E. Thackeray of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and formerly of Darien and Captiva, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on May 2, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83. Born July 30, 1936, in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of Joseph and Betty.  He graduated from Harvard College in 1958 and from Harvard Law School in 1961, having received a full academic scholarship.  While at Harvard, he was the piano accompanist to the Harvard Glee Club. After law school, he graduated first in his class from both Officer Candidate School and the Naval Justice School in 1962.  He served as a legal officer, mostly at posts in Japan, including aboard the USS Coral Sea and the Commander Destroyer Flotilla One, until he was released from active duty as a Lieutenant in 1965. Joining the law firm of BakerHostetler in Cleveland in 1965, Mr. Thackeray was a well-respected antitrust lawyer who spent much of his career dealing with the application of the antitrust laws to the mass media, particularly daily newspapers.

Born on Aug. 7, 1940 in County Down Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Pat and Winnie Rogan. Pat was a beloved wife, mother and devoted homemaker who enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

Charles S. Billingham, formerly of New Canaan and New Milford, passed away April 23, 2020, at his daughter’s home in Asheville, North Carolina. Charles (Butch) was born in Stamford to the late Charles R. and Anne Billingham in 1937. He spent his childhood in Darien. Charles worked for the New Canaan Post Office as a mailman and later an assistant postmaster until his retirement. While living in New Canaan, he was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he was involved in several clubs and for a few years acted as Sunday School superintendent along with his wife, Gail.

Jane Tyler Christie, 84, a long time Baltimore Area resident, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2020 in the company of family members in Auburn, Pennsylvania. Born in 1935 in Stamford to Walter and Janet Tyler, Jane spent her childhood in Darien, enjoying all that Long Island Sound had to offer. Jane graduated from Darien High School in 1953, obtaining her master’s degree from Harvard-Radcliff, where she met her husband, the late Alden Christie. Jane had a long career with the YWCA before retiring as the executive directer of the YWCA of the Greater Baltimore Area. She dedicated her life to helping those in need and supported numerous charities.

It is with great sadness that the family of Brigitte Lynn Wallace McKee, devoted mother, loving daughter, wonderful sister and friend, passed away on April 26, 2020 in Annapolis, Maryland at the age of 43 years, after a valiant struggle with breast cancer. Brigitte was a special person to all who knew her. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, always kind, thoughtful, and giving to others. Brigitte displayed honor, truthfulness, strength, and integrity in all she attempted and accomplished throughout her life. Brigitte was born in Orange, California and during her early childhood lived with her family in Newport Beach, California; Bronxville, New York; Darien, and Vienna.

Shirley Elsa Jennings ended her journey here on earth April 24, 2020 at the Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, N.Y. Shirley was 92. She was born Shirley Elsa Narvesen in East Rockaway, New York, one of three daughters of Frederick Conrad and Elsa Ehrenfels Narvesen.

In 1946, while working in a hospital in Hartford, she met her love, Robert Burton Jennings, who was finishing his degree at Trinity College after serving in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. They were married in the chapel at Trinity on Aug. 30, 1947 and enjoyed 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Shirley was a homemaker and raised the couple’s four sons in homes in Hooksett and Sunapee, New Hampshire, Rochester and Buffalo, New York, Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Norwalk and Darien, Grafton and Springfield, Vermont, and Stuart and Englewood, Florida.
